Former Maryland House Minority Whip Releases Her call To Action

Former Republican Whip of the Maryland House of Delegates, Kathy Szeliga, provided WNAV Radio with the following letter to her Baltimore County constituents:

Heading into week two in Annapolis for the 2023 legislative session, I received word that I have been appointed to the Health and Government Operations Committee and two subcommittees - Insurance and Government Operations. My voice will be strong as the committee hears various bills throughout the session. My colleague, Ryan Nawrocki, was appointed to the Environment and Transportation Committee. Together, we will tackle tough issues and hope to make you proud by making a difference in Annapolis.

Some of the legislation we can expect to hear over this upcoming session in Annapolis:

  • Passing a balanced budget (note the $3 billion surplus which has not been seen in years and will result in many spending demands)
  • Addressing the increasing juvenile crime in school and the community
  • Legislation due to the legalization of cannabis including discussions on decriminalization, expungement of convictions, and taxation
  • Proposed SB 1, and others, will attempt to limit law abiding citizens 2nd Amendment rights
  • A proposed constitutional amendment regarding abortion
  • Public Safety legislation to protect our communities and police force
  • Education legislation including attempts to increase transparency and parental rights

**Other pieces of legislation mentioned by the Department of Legislative Services surround increasing the minimum wage to $15, the regulation of handguns, and addition
