The parent company of The Ever Foward Cargo Ship, grounded near Sandy Point State Park for over a month this past Spring, will be paying over $676,000 for a wetlands license. The Maryland Department of the Environment says the ship was freed after extensive dredging of about 14 acres of the bottom of the Chesapeake bay, including 11. 5 acres within the boundary of a natural oyster bar. The money will fund the seeding of oyster bars to mitigate the effects of that vessel’s grounding on aquatic habitat.
