Shannon Michelle Smith of Millersville is on no-bond house arrest after police served her an arrest warrant for second-degree child abuse and second-degree assault charges from events earlier this month, on December 7. The 32-year-old is allegedly recorded on security video dragging a 2-year-old boy by his arm and throwing him onto a cot in the Kiddie Academy in Millerville. She is also seen hitting the boy on his back. The boy also reportedly had a bloody nose from the events. A statement sent to the media from the Kiddie Academy stated that Miss Smith was fired after the events.  The Maryland State Department of Education temporarily suspended the Millersville facility’s childcare license on Dec. 12. Miss Smith is to have a preliminary hearing on January 11, 2023.
