Reid Taylor Weeks Sr. broke free after working through layers of razor wire in the Jennifer Road jail’s yard area and was seen running toward the nearby Anne Arundel Medical Center at about 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday. He was later arrested after a standoff with sheriff’s deputies 20 minutes after his escape was reported. The hospital was locked down while deputies, police officers, and detention officers searched the area for the escaped inmate. The 31-year-old man was found under a blanket in the rear seat of an occupied car in a hospital parking garage. The car’s driver was unaware Weeks was in the backseat when deputies reportedly pulled the driver out of the car, and after a brief standoff, Weeks exited the vehicle and was arrested. He was taken directly to the hospital for treatment of “minor lacerations to his hands and legs,” according to charging papers.
Weeks was being held without bail on kidnapping charges from July this year, in which he allegedly threatened his mother with a hammer and demanded she drive to an ATM and withdraw money. His trial for kidnapping is scheduled for this coming February 7. He will now face additional charges of first-degree escape.
