A tanker truck, carrying butane gas crashed and overturned on the westbound lanes of Route 50 on the Severn Bridge. It took six hours for crews to clean up the mess after the tanker truck was towed to Annapolis Junction so that the butane could be removed from the tanker. Traffic was diverted to Ritchie Highway, and the Broadneck schools were conducted virtually on Monday.
Maryland State Police said the 61-year-old driver was charged with negligent driving and failing to obey a designated lane.
Troopers from the State Police’s Annapolis Barrack and the agency’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, along with the Annapolis Fire Department and the Anne Arundel County fire and police departments, assisted with the crash cleanup Monday morning. Snyder said that the Maryland Department of the Environment also responded to help clean up spilled fuel.
