30 Day Curfew For Those 17 Years Old And Younger In Prince George's County To Go Into Effect on Friday

Screenshot from Facebook Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks said Monday that a curfew would go into effect for juveniles 17 and younger for 30 days. beginning Friday.

The curfew will be in effect between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11:59 p.m. and 5 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Alsobrooks was flanked by the county’s police chief and council president and had harsh words for the county’s prosecutor, courts, and parents for what she said was a systemic failure to hold repeat criminal offenders, particularly juveniles, accountable.

Prince George's County Police Chief Malik Aziz said his department has made 438 juvenile arrests in 2022, which is more than double the prior year's numbers; eight juveniles have been charged with homicide.

"What's also deeply troubling are the number of juveniles repeatedly arrested," Aziz said.

Monday's press conference comes after nine people were shot, over Labor Day weekend; two of the victims died.
