(Annapolis, MD) WNAV — Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot is reminding residents that this is the weekend for appliance shopping without paying the six-percent state tax.
Saturday, February 19 through Monday, the 21, are the “Shop Tax Free” days on major appliances that bear the ENERGY STAR label.
The items may be bought in-store, or online and they will be exempt from the state’s sales tax.
The list includes air conditioners, washers and dryers, standard-size refrigerators, furnaces, heat pumps, boilers, compact fluorescent light bulbs (not LED), dehumidifiers and programmable thermostats. Solar water heaters are tax-exempt year-round.
In 2018, ENERGY STAR-certified products helped consumers save 200 billion kilowatt hours of electricity, avoid $35 billion in energy costs, and achieve 150 million metric tons of greenhouse gas reductions. The Energy Savers’ program started in 2011.
It’s another way to use less energy and save money while upgrading your home décor.
