QAC Sheriff’s Deputies Identified by Scammers as Fake Collectors

(Centreville, MD) WNAV – Queen Anne’s County officials say phone scammers are now claiming to be deputies calling to make debt collections.
The caller has names of deputies and self identifies as an official from local law enforcement.

The fake caller then tells the resident that they owe money for: a warrant, a ticket, a court proceeding, to send a gift card, and all are false claims. If you receive a phone call by an impersonator, officials recommend that you hang up and notify the Sheriff’s Office of the attempt to steal from you.
