(Severn, MD)  WNAV —  Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman is joining other elected leaders with shovels this Friday afternoon in west county.

It’s a groundbreaking event for a new center in Severn that will serve residents, young and old.

The Department of Aging will have a Senior Activity Center housed on one side of the building and on the other side will be a Boys and Girls Club.

A basketball court will have a designated space in the planned complex, too.

County Executive Pittman says he picked up the project that was left by the wayside by previous administrations. He gathered his team together to plan what is called an Intergenerational Center.  Severn residents and members of the faith community have lobbied for an activity center in the area for fifteen years.

Local elected leaders picked up shovels for the event including District 32 representatives and the County Council member who represents parts of Severn, Chairwoman Sarah Lacey.

Officials hope the mixture of programs and recreational activities will improve the overall quality of life choices for locals.

The price tag for the new Intergenerational Center is 15.7 Million-Dollars. The center is expected to be operating in 2023.
