(Annapolis, MD) — WNAV– Legislation introduced last month by County Councilwoman Lisa Rodvien of the 6th District, seeks to codify measures in buildings to protect birds from striking their reflective surfaces, like windows. Ms. Rodvien says the legislation is based on the one that was implemented in Howard County.  It’s meant to solve the problem of a billion birds a year dying from striking buildings.  Rodvien says that millions of songbirds die every year from birdstrikes, and the Baltimore Oriole is no exception. That species population has dropped, she says, by 40% since the 1970s. More information about what causes birds to confuse a reflection for the real thing can be found on the Annapolis Creative website.
