This post is from eyeonannapolis.com <p>The U.S. Naval Academy held its annual Color Parade earlier today on Worden Field, celebrating the achievements of the midshipmen and marking one of the final milestones for the graduating First Class. The time-honored event recognized the top-performing company and concluded with the formal presentation of the color company guide-on.</p>

<p>The parade began with a performance by the Jolly Rogers, the Academy’s silent drill team, at approximately 10:50 a.m. The team, established in 1990, is known for its precise, silent drill routines that exemplify the Brigade’s values of discipline and teamwork. The platoon is led by Midshipman 1st Class Brian McClain of Panama City Beach, Florida.</p>
<p>The Color Parade, first held in 1867, is the Academy’s oldest tradition of its kind and serves as the final full dress parade for First Class midshipmen. Each year, the company that demonstrates the highest overall performance in academics, athletics, and professional standards over both semesters is honored.</p>

<p>This year, 20th Company earned the distinction of being named the Color Company for both the fall and spring semesters. Midshipman 1st Class Aidan Plaehn of Evergreen, Colorado, served as the fall commander, and Midshipman 1st Class Nathaniel Gunn of Mandeville, Louisiana, led the company during the spring.</p>

<p>In recognition of their accomplishments, 20th Company was presented with the Stewart Wight Hannah Memorial Award, a silver bowl displayed in Bancroft Hall and inscribed with the spring semester color company and commander’s name. The company also received the Forrestal Award, an engraved silver tray donated in honor of James V. Forrestal, the nation’s first Secretary of Defense.</p>

<p>As is tradition, the spring company commander selected a color honoree to assist in the guide-on presentation. Gunn chose his mother, Nicole Gunn of Federal Way, Washington, as this year’s honoree. She was escorted onto the field by Brigade Commander Midshipman Joshua McGill.</p>
<p>The official reviewing party for the 2025 Color Parade included Vice Admiral Sara Joyner ’89, Director of Force Structure, Resources, and Assessment (J8); Rear Admiral Yvette M. Davids ’89, the 65th Superintendent of the Naval Academy; and Captain Walter Allman III ’98, the 90th Commandant of Midshipmen.</p>
