Certified Native Plant Retailer

Historic Annapolis is now officially recognized as a “Maryland’s Best Native Plants” retailer by the Maryland Department of Agriculture. To meet this certification, at least 20 percent of the plants offered at the sale are native to Maryland. These selections are ideal for gardeners looking to attract pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds while supporting local ecosystems.

Available native plants include Bee Balm, Wild Bergamot, Hoary Mountain Mint, Golden Alexander, Golden Ragwort, Sundrops, Virginia Sweetspire, and Eastern Redbud. Many of these varieties are also deer-resistant.

Historic Garden Favorites and Edible Plants

The sale also features plants harvested from the historic William Paca Garden. Shoppers can take home heritage varieties like Orris Root, Columbine, Balloon Flower, Naked Lady, and Hellebore. This year marks the first time the Byzantine Gladiolus, a standout from the Garden Flower Parterre, will be available for purchase.

In addition, a wide selection of vegetable and herb plants will be available to inspire culinary gardening.

Family-Friendly Offerings

The event includes plants likely to spark interest among younger visitors. Examples include the Silver Money Plant, with spring purple blooms and coin-like seed pods once believed to ward off monsters. Interactive plants like the Sensitive Plant, which folds its leaves when touched, and the Snapdragon, whose blooms resemble a dragon’s mouth, offer fun educational moments for children.

Garden volunteers will be on-site throughout the weekend to provide plant care advice and answer questions.

Plant Catalog and More Information
