Happy anniversary to my parents. My mom was insistent on being married before her 30th birthday back in 1954. And a premature Happy Birthday to mom — tomorrow! As for your OMG Fact for the day, the Big Mac made its debut in 1968 and cost a whopping 45 cents. I just looked it up on the app, and today it is $5.29. And I just looked at a US inflation calculator, and that Big Mac SHOULD cost $4.14. Ronald McDonald is a greedy clown. Anyhow, let’s get into the news, shall we?

Annapolis Police are investigating a shooting that occurred late Thursday night in the Bowman Court area. Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 10:54 p.m. on May 8, 2025, and found an adult male suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The case remains under investigation, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact detectives at 410-260-3439. No suspects have been identified or arrested.

Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown has announced the indictment of seven individuals, aged 19 to 25, from communities including Upper Marlboro, White Plains, Capitol Heights, and Washington, D.C., for their involvement in violent “bank jugging” robberies across five Maryland counties. The charges include armed robbery, attempted murder, assault, carjacking, gang participation, and firearms violations. The incidents occurred between August 2023 and July 2024, with at least 34 victims and over $155,000 stolen. The suspects allegedly followed victims leaving banks such as Navy Federal Credit Union, Bank of America, Capital One, and Wells Fargo, robbing them at gunpoint. Some caused crashes to trap victims, and firearms modified with illegal conversion devices were frequently used. This has subsided a bit in the county, but it was rampant about a year ago. Still, I say pay electronically and if you need to use an ATM, be cautious because it seems banks no longer hire security.

With the end of the 2024-2025 school year approaching, Anne Arundel County Public Schools has released key dates. The last day for students in prekindergarten through 11th grade will be Friday, June 13, 2025, while 191-day Unit I and Unit IV employees will conclude on Monday, June 16, 2025. Graduating seniors will finish on Friday, May 23, 2025—congrats to all. The CAT Schools will end afternoon session classes on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, and morning session classes on Friday, June 13, 2025. Early Childhood Intervention students will have their last day on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. Any inclement weather closures could adjust these dates, but I think we’re good. The 2025-2026 school year is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 25, 2025.

The Rotary Club of Annapolis has announced that the 80th Annual Crab Feast will take place on Friday, August 1, 2025. The event is expected to welcome more than 1,000 attendees for a night of community and food, featuring all-you-can-eat crabs, corn on the cob, barbecue, and more. The family-friendly event is also a significant fundraiser, with proceeds supporting local charities and nonprofits through the club’s Crab Feast Grants Program. In 2024, the event raised $30,000 for community causes. Ticket sales and the accompanying 50/50 raffle are set to open soon. More information is available at www.annapolisrotary.org.
