A Night of History, Hope, and Hometown Pride – August 9, 2025

Annapolis’ most iconic beacon is turning 150 — and you’re invited to the party. On Saturday, August 9, 2025, the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse will mark a major milestone with a once-in-a-century anniversary celebration at Navy–Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The event will not only celebrate the lighthouse’s legacy, but also rally support for its future as it faces growing threats from sea level rise and increasingly severe storms.

Why This Celebration Matters

Since 2023, the historic lighthouse — the last screw-pile lighthouse of its kind still in its original location on the Chesapeake Bay — has suffered repeated damage to its landing dock due to stronger storms and higher tides. The 150th Anniversary Celebration is more than a tribute; it’s a call to action. Funds raised from ticket sales and sponsorships will support critical engineering plans to elevate the lighthouse and preserve it for generations to come.

“This lighthouse isn’t just a piece of maritime history — it’s a symbol of our community,” said John Potvin, LIghthouse Manager. “Saving it requires all of us.”
